3D printer manufacturer German RepRap announced on May 2 the launch of its new 3D printing consumables nylon-PA6.
Nylon-PA6 filaments make open source 3D printers also capable of printing high-strength, wear-resistant parts. It is understood that nylon-PA6 is more durable than ABS and has been used by the automotive industry to manufacture plastic parts, bearings, and connectors for gears.
“We have fully tested nylon-PA6 filaments on our X400 giant 3D printer,” said German RepRap. “This material adheres very well to the print bed with Kapton tape, and the bond strength increases as the extrusion temperature increases. The optimum extrusion temperature is 260° C. After measurement, nylon-PA6 is used. The printed model has an E-module of 2800 MPa."
The company said that nylon-PA6 filaments are produced in Germany and do not contain heavy metals or toxic substances. The selection of base materials and coloring dyes was selected according to the relevant standards of the US FDA and European food regulations.
Nylon-PA6 can now be purchased at the German RepRap online store. There are two types of 1.75 mm diameter and 3 mm diameter. There is a roll of 2.1 kg or a roll of 750 grams. The starting price is 49.95 euros with 19% VAT.
